Thoughts running around in my Brain

- A friend of mine came over the other day to say that he and his family were forced to move out of their rented house into their own house which is still under construction. I visited this house. Part of it doesn't have a roof, the floor isn't fully made, obviously nothing is painted, there is no door, no electricity. They have no money so they can't work on the house more. He was showing me all the mosquito bites on his arms. To top this, his Mom is real sick and I can't even imagine how they're living in that house.

- In contrast, our super rich landlords are doing what seems like a million dollar makeover of their house just to impress the hopefulls who will one day marry their son.

- My poor friend Anil needs just about 30-40 thousand rupees in order to fully finish his house.

- In another contrast, I want to buy an AC which will come out to about 25 thousand rupees. A luxury item. The same money will help Anil's whole family beyond their imagination.

- In America, Pets are treated better than some humans in India. Here, if Humans are treated so badly, then animals are treated even worse. Our landlord's cow just gave birth to another cow. Her baby cud before this was a Bull. Bull's are of no use since they cannot give milk. As a result, the Bull was thrown out as soon as the baby cow arrived. For Days that Bull moo mood loudly for food and for its Mama outside our gate but to no avail. He was left to fend for himself. Now, weeks later, he's down to half his weight.

- The other day a woman was shot and killed in Kanpur because she complained against the loud music her neighbors were playing. So much for fighting for you rights eh?

- I cannot understand why Narendra Modi isn't in Jail.

- An acquaintance of ours has 5 children. All girls. He kept having kids, hoping one would be a boy. They're so poor- they get half a litre of milk a day. This is used for Tea. The children don't get any- even the wee ones.

- In contrast, between Samir, Chetan and I, almost 3 litres of milk is consumed in ONE day.

- What my maid gets paid in a month- 700 Rupees is what Samir gets in one Day.

- Why do we live far from the people we love? What is accomplished from this?

- Salwar Kurtas are pretty but probably the most irritating outfits that were ever invented. I can't keep that Dupatta on me and one day, I'm going to get rid of all my suits.

- Chetan keeps saying Papa all day and keeps calling me Alba- for Arpa I guess. What ever happened to calling me Mama?

- The Brahmins here are so proud of their caste. They're very proud that they don't eat flesh of any kind. They won't kill animals but they take the juice out of any human lower than them. The Caste System is Alive and Active.

Great to read those reflections and I am glad that you are writing them down. We all go through those kind of contrasting thoughts. We need to struggle with those and ask the Lord to grant us grace to do what is right and appropriate. Rememeber when you were small we also struggled to provide you adequate milk, since we could not afford to buy more than a quarter KG per day. The Lord knows and he provides in his own time.
