Life Sustainer

It's hot here in Unnao. It's hard to describe the heat. It's real draining and can almost drive you a bit mad. Still, we have an inverter, fans and a cooler and we are able to get by. Get by, that is, before the elections. Post-elections has been another story for our small city. On average we're experiencing 12-hour power cuts. The less fortunate are getting no water.

Two days ago we were severely tested as our neighborhood transformer blew up and we were out of power for 27 hours straight. 27 hours. No cooler, no fans, no lights, no water. Add to this the hundreds of mosquitoes that plague Unnao and you have a recipe for disaster.

In the midst of this mini crisis, the Lord gave me a sense of perspective. Before the power went out, I had been bemoaning my lot in life. Almost subconciously blaming Samir for bringing me here. My thoughts were running along the lines of somehow conning him into getting us an AC.

Then the power went out and the Lord showed me that I need to be grateful for what I have been given. The Lord brought to mind numerous families who live the kind of life we lived for 27 hours every single day. Surely, I pass a house everyday in my walks which has no electricity at all. I on the other hand have an inverter (which works well only when properly charged- but that's another story), I have fans and a cooler and running water pretty much to my disposal.

Another thing the Lord showed me is to be thankful for my man. I have come across 2 young girls lately who lost their husbands. For better or worse said the marriage vows. The heat is not what will make or break my life. I have everything that I need.
