Something that the Lord has been trying to really deal with me (for a long time I might add) is about the habit of talking behind people's back. I really hate to expose this part about myself but I know that unless I write it down, I won't get to work on completely getting rid of this dirty thing.
I don't know when Samir and I started talking negatively about others in our home but I do know that it has to stop and NOW.
I remember something a former Principal of CIU once said. He said that in their living room, his wife had put up a poster saying :You are safe here.
By that she meant that whomever visited their home or whomever they encountered will not be talked about or against in their home. A person could come visit there and not be worried about how they would be 'analyzed' once they have left.
I really think people who dwell on others' weakness have a lot of weaknesses to deal with in their own life. I am a flawed being but I do want to please God so with his help and with your prayers I am going to change this Habit. Help me Holy Spirit.
Here are some practical tips to deal with this area:
1. Instead of talking against a person, talk 'For' them. Talk about their good points.
2. If someone has done or said something to offend or hurt you, talk about it in a manner where the result will be wholesome.
3. If tempted to criticize turn the conversation to something more interesting like upcoming vacations, etc. Or just start reading a book or doing a wholesome activity.
4. Give over what you want to actually say about that person to the Lord. Talk it out with Him.
